Safety & Security Officer Trainee/1

Include, but not limited to:
o Security patrols, on foot or by vehicle, in order to detect evidence of irregularities and deter criminal activity. o Perform environmental searches and maintain security in a State Agency, Facility, or Community Residence. o Inspect buildings to ensure that all areas are appropriately locked, secured and free of hazardous conditions. o Maintain communication by radio, P.A., or telephone for routine and emergency needs. o Questions suspicious persons. o May direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic. o Enforces state, municipal and institution laws, rules and regulations. o Instructs employees and Individuals about Emergency Fire & Safety practices and procedures. o May operate security cameras, computers, and related electronic security equipment. o Answers questions and gives directions to visitors. o May occasionally arrest suspects and violators in order to protect persons and property. o May testify in court. o May need to conduct searches to locate missing individuals. o Responds to, investigates and prepares detailed written reports at the scenes of fires, accidents, and other incidents. o Summons medical assistance and applies first aid as the situation indicates. o May physically intervene in fights and may physically restrain unruly individuals in order to prevent injury to others. o Interview's victims, witnesses, complainants, and suspects in order to collect information needed to assist in criminal prosecution. o Conducts quarterly reviews of Agency properties as assigned by supervisor to ensure compliance with NYS Uniform and/or Life Safety Code, and Agency rules and regulations. o Daily and/or overnight travel within the Region, and to other Regions within the State may be required. o May be involved in emergency management through planning, implementing, and assessing disaster plans. o Performs other related duties to ensure the safety and security of Individuals, property, and grounds.

Salary Range:
From $42939 to $61828 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Currently in the title of Safety & Security Officer Trainee or Safety & Security Officer 1 OR Reachable on the current Civil Service list for Safety & Security Officer Trainee OR Currently in a title eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 in accordance with NYS Civil Service Rules PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT:
Candidate must have a high school or high school equivalency diploma issued from an accredited public or private school recognized by the New York State Education Department In addition, the candidate:
1. Must have a valid drivers' license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Conditional licenses are NOT acceptable. 2. Must be at least 18 years of age. 3. Must be a United States Citizen and a resident of New York State. 4. Must pass a medical examination administered by the Department of Civil Service's Employee Health Services, which includes an agility test. 5. Must undergo a thorough background investigation to determine suitability for appointment. Conviction of a felony will bar appointment; conviction of a misdemeanor or other violation of law may bar appointment. Background investigation includes fingerprinting for both state and federal identification records check. Candidates may also be required to be cleared through the New York State Child Abuse Register. 6. Ability to work effectively within the treatment team. 7. Ability to act independently. 8. Ability to meet and maintain criminal background and physical standards. 9. Ability to accurately observe and document conditions relating to welfare and security. NOTE:
Due to the peace officer status of incumbents, re-fingerprinting, including payment of all applicable fees, is required even for an existing employee who may already have search and retain status with the Division of Criminal Justice Services. VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 based on the Center for Medicaid Services regulationEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
