Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Family Care TTL and /or the Licensed Psychologist, the Psychologist 1 / Psychology Trainee participates as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team for Individuals in the State Operated Family Care Program. The Psychologist 1 / Psychology Trainee provides counseling to Family Care individuals on an as needed basis, obtains, and monitors informed consent for restrictive programs, interventions and medications. The Psychologist 1 / Psychologist Trainee serves as a resource to the Family Care Team and will participate in Life Plan meetings, staff, and provider training, provide impact assessment statements based on incidents, and participates in special DDSO and Agency projects as assigned. Under the Supervision of the Licensed Psychologist, The Psychologist 1 / Psychology Trainee will design and develop behavior support plans or medication monitoring plans as needed for Family Care individuals The Psychologist 1 / Psychology Trainee may serve as a backup person / designee for the TTL or Licensed Psychologist. The Psychologist 1 / Psychology Trainee will help review individuals' life plans, staff action plans, monthly service checklists, progress notes, and safeguard summaries written by the Home Liaisons and Care Managers to ensure HCBS compliance.

Either 1.Two years appropriately supervised post-master's clinical psychology experience in a clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school setting, where your primary duties were providing psychological services as described below; Or 2. Completed a clinical psychology practicum, externship, or fieldwork assignment as part of a qualifying master's degree in psychology program and have one year of appropriately supervised post-master's clinical psychology experience in a clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school setting, where your primarily duties were providing psychological services as described below. Qualifying Advanced Placement
Experience:
For the purposes of these examinations, qualifying experience is considered to be direct experience with individuals, families, or groups in a hospital, psychiatric hospital, psychiatric clinic, community mental health clinic, correctional facility, intermediate care facility, institutional or school setting, or community based residential and/or day program, under the supervision of a doctoral level psychologist, licensed psychologist, licensed physician, licensed psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, or licensed clinical social worker (or in the case of school psychologists with permanent certification from the New York State Education Department, working under the supervision of a school principal or similar administrator). In order for experience to be considered qualifying, primary duties must have included activities such as administering assessments and tests for diagnostic psychological evaluations or completing functional behavior assessments; developing behavior support plans or writing psychological treatment plans; and/or providing psychological counseling and treatment in one or more of the following areas:
mental and/or emotional disorders, cognitive disorders, behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, alcoholism, addictions, substance use disorders, sex offender assessment and treatment, or forensic mental health. Examples of non-qualifying experience include but are not limited to experimental psychology and industrial/organizational psychology. OR Provisional Appointment for Psychology Trainee 1:
Candidate must have the following:
Either 1. a master's degree in psychology from a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education/United States Secretary of Education. The psychology degree program must have been one that prepared graduates for positions treating individuals in clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school settings. Or 2. completion of graduate coursework in a qualifying doctoral level program in psychology that would be the equivalent required for conferral of a master's degree in psychology. The coursework must have prepared graduates for positions treating individuals in clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school settings. Candidates must submit an official transcript to provide evidence that such coursework was completed, or an attestation of the coursework equivalency from a qualifying accredited college or university. NOTE:
A Certificate of Advanced Study in psychology cannot be substituted for the required master's degree in psychology. Examples of qualifying degree programs/majors include but are not limited to the following:
clinical psychology, forensic psychology, community psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology, and child psychology. Examples of NON-qualifying degree programs/majors include but are not limited to the following:
experimental psychology and industrial/organizational psychology. Provisional Appointment for Psychologist 1:
Current NYS employee with one year of permanent service in the title of Psychology Assistant 3. If you are appointed provisionally, you must take the next scheduled civil service examination for this title and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed. If you do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, you may not be retained . VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS:
